In the Súper Bets headquarters, located on 27 de Febrero Avenue corner Tiradentes, the Association of Sports Journalists of Santo Domingo (ACD) awarded this Monday the first edition of the 2026-2027 season of its traditional award The Star Player of the Week. The winners were Adonis Medina, pitcher of the Tigres del Licey, and Harold Ramírez, outfielder of the Estrellas Orientales, after standing out in the first three games of the tournament.
Medina topped the preferences among pitchers, receiving 22 votes, while Ramírez received 11 votes for the position player category. Medina’s pitching in the opening game, Friday, October 16, was decisive: in five innings he struck out nine batters, contributing to the 12-2 victory of the Tigres over the Leones del Escogido and placing him among the leaders in strikeouts of the championship.
Offensive production of Ramírez
During the first three commitments of the season, Ramírez maintained a batting average of .467, with seven walks in 15 official turns. Among his achievements were a home run, three runs batted in, and four stolen bases, factors that helped the Estrellas Orientales start the championship with two wins and one loss.
Recognition of a legend
The ceremony also included a tribute to former Major League pitcher Carlos Pérez, who received an award for his career and legacy in Dominican baseball, highlighting his influence on generations of players.
Tradition of the award
The Star Player of the Week, originated in 1957, continues as one of the most iconic celebrations of national baseball. The ACD, led by Américo Celado and coordinated by Franklin Núñez and Frank de la Cruz, organizes the award ceremony every Monday at 12:00 pm at Súper Bets, with the presence of journalists, directors, and personalities related to the sport.
