The East Toros have announced the signing of Canadian left-handed pitcher Evan Grills to their team, with the aim of strengthening their starting rotation for the 2026-2027 season of the Professional Baseball League of the Dominican Republic (LIDOM). Grills, 34, is already in the country and has begun training with the team. With recent experience in the Frontier League and the Mexican Professional Baseball League, Grills accumulated a combined record of 10-5, with 98 strikeouts and only 25 walks in 107 pitches thrown, which caught the attention of the team’s management.
The general manager of the East Toros, Jesús Mejía, highlighted that Grills is a left-handed starter with a good repertoire and command, which is always an advantage in a rotation of this league. Although Grills will make his debut in the LIDOM, he has international experience in the professional league of Puerto Rico and in the Chinese Professional Baseball League.
LIDOM: A new challenge for Grills
Grills will take the place of starter Aaron Sánchez, who was affected by a virus after his arrival in the country and suffered a relapse this week. The organization reported that Sánchez could return to the team once he completes his recovery. The director Víctor Estévez and his technical staff will announce the starting rotation for the first commitments of the campaign soon.
The East Toros will start the season as locals in the Francisco A. Micheli Stadium, where they will receive the Eastern Stars on Friday, October 16 at 7:30 pm in the Opening Day. With the signing of Grills, the team aims to strengthen its rotation and have a good performance in the 2026-2027 LIDOM season.
