The Instituto Dominicano de Prevención y Protección de Riesgos Laborales (IDOPPRIL) has expanded its staff to ensure the Center of Authorization is operational 24 hours a day during Holy Week. This measure aims to provide immediate attention to healthcare providers and injured affiliates, in a period of high traffic and labor flow.
Presidential support and call to accident prevention
Agustín Burgos, executive director of IDOPPRIL, highlighted the support of President Luis Abinader to maintain the center available uninterruptedly. “We have received support to assist workers who suffer work-related events requiring medical attention or coverage”, expressed Burgos. In the Dominican Republic, Holy Week generates a 30% increase in traffic accidents, according to historical data from the General Directorate of Transit and Land Transport, which underscores the urgency of these actions.
Exhorto to industries and citizens to avoid risks
Burgos urged the personnel of industries, companies, and institutions operating during the holiday to adopt preventive measures against workplace accidents and route accidents. Affiliates to the Labor Risks Insurance must drive with caution, respecting life on congested roads during vacations.
Employer responsibilities in accident prevention
- Implement safety norms established by authorities.
- Communicate measures to collaborators and supervise their compliance.
- Report incidents via the IDOPPRIL Clients Platform.
In 2025, IDOPPRIL registered over 15,000 reports of workplace accidents, with a peak during holidays like this. Burgos emphasized that accident prevention is a daily responsibility, applicable to all Dominican or foreign workers. Each employer must ensure safe environments, promoting a culture of peace and solidarity.
