Frontier Sports Games 2025 Qualifiers Begin This Saturday in Jimaní

SANTO DOMINGO. – Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, will head this Saturday 21 a ceremony to give start, in Jimaní the qualifying competitions of the Frontier Sports Games 2025, whose final phase will be held in the province of Montecristi in the second week of July.

The opening ceremony is scheduled for 9:00 in the morning and will feature the presence of Deputy Minister of Leisure Time and Special Events, Santo Kennedy Vargas, as well as provincial and municipal authorities of Independencia.

In total, 14 sports disciplines will be contested simultaneously in municipalities of the seven border provinces participating: Pedernales, Independencia, Bahoruco and Elías Piña in the southwest; and Santiago Rodríguez, Dajabón and Montecristi in the northwest.

Minister Cruz announced that he will make a tour of several communities on the border as part of the relaunch of these games, which have not been held for a decade. Their reactivation has the support of the Presidency of the Republic, the Ministry of Education, the State Economic Food Compartments, the Reserve Bank, the General Directorate of Border Development and the Border Zone Special Development Coordination Office.

Competition Distribution: June 21 and 22

During the first weekend of eliminations, the disciplines will be distributed as follows:

Southwest Zone

Jimaní: basketball and judo

Neiba: chess and table tennis

Pedernales: domino

Villa Jaragua (Bahoruco): karate

Elías Piña: Olympic wrestling

Northwest Zone

The Deputy Minister of Sports, Fernando Teruel, will head the inaugural act in Dajabón.

Dajabón: chess, Olympic wrestling and table tennis

Montecristi: basketball and karate

Santiago Rodríguez: domino and judo

Competitions of June 28 and 29

For the last qualifying weekend, the venues and disciplines will be:

Southwest Zone

Jimaní: track and field and handball

La Descubierta (Independencia): baseball

Elías Piña: boxing and softball

Neyba: football

Northwest Zone

Dajabón: track and field, handball and football

Santiago Rodríguez: baseball

Montecristi: boxing, softball and volleyball
