Hace 25 años Fernando Tatis hizo historia con dos grand slams en una sola entrada

Santo Domingo.- This Wednesday marks the 25th anniversary of one of the most impressive achievements in the history of the Major League Baseball.

On April 23, 1999, the Dominican third baseman Fernando Tatis father, in the ranks of the St. Louis Cardinals, achieved a milestone by hitting two grand slams in one inning against the South Korean pitcher Chan Ho Park at the Dodger Stadium.

This event, which took place in the third inning, continues to be a unique record in the MLB, as no other player has achieved two grand slams in one inning against the same pitcher.

“¿What could this be compared to?”, questioned Vin Scully, the legendary Dodgers announcer, in a comment for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. “I’m not sure if there’s anything comparable. It’s absurd to think it happened in one inning”.

In that outstanding inning, Tatis drove in a total of eight runs, being key to his team’s victory.

His feat immortalized him in the annals of history, and although he is now also known for being the father of Fernando Tatis Jr., the star of the San Diego Padres, that performance ensures him a place of honor in the historical memory of baseball.

Even though more than two decades have passed since that achievement, Tatis’ feat continues to cause amazement due to the improbability of his feat. As time passes and no other performance is equated to it, his magical night in Los Angeles grows even larger in the myth of the sport.
