The family of Lieutenant Nélsido Polanco Plascencia, a member of the Air Force of Dominican Republic (FARD), today requested the Public Ministry and the National Police to conduct a full investigation into the incident that resulted in the officer’s death on Friday night in the Valiente sector of La Caleta, in Boca Chica.
The relatives, accompanied by Diógenes Ozuna, coordinator of the Dominican Committee of Human Rights (CDDH) in the municipal district of San Luis, denounced that the incident should not be considered merely a traffic accident. According to them, the lieutenant was allegedly pursued while riding a motorcycle and was struck by a projectile that caused him to lose control and suffer a fatal fall.
The family’s account
According to the family’s version, Polanco Plascencia was traveling through an area where there were several motorcyclists when he stopped for a moment after noticing a situation that caught his attention. The family maintains that after this pause, a discussion developed between the officer and some of the people present.
Apparently, the discussion extended outside the location and a National Police officer was affected during the incident. The officer was taken to the Dr. Darío Contreras Trauma Hospital, where he remained admitted according to the information provided.
Possible pursuit and officer’s death
The family’s version indicates that the lieutenant left the area on his motorcycle and was followed by several motorcyclists. It is claimed that one of the pursuers allegedly fired or struck the officer, causing his fall onto the pavement. The relatives argue that the lieutenant’s injuries are not solely the result of the fall and that an investigation of the available evidence is required to determine the actual causes.
Link to previous incidents
The relatives also requested an investigation into a possible connection with a case recorded years ago, when Polanco Plascencia still held the rank of sergeant. According to the family, on that occasion four men attempted to strip the soldier of his belongings. The episode ended with two of the men dead and the other two sustaining injuries.
The relatives consider it relevant that both events occurred in the same area and raise the possibility of a connection. However, this hypothesis comes solely from the family and has not been confirmed by authorities.
Requirements for the authorities
The family asked the Public Ministry and the National Police to determine what happened during the ride, identify the motorcyclist who allegedly caused the impact, and review testimonies, evidence, and any other elements that could help clarify the incident.
