Electrical reliability is once again at the center of ETED’s actions in the south of the country. The company announced normalization work at the Cruce de Cabral II substation to reinforce the operation of the transmission network and prepare for the integration of new generation sources into the Dominican electrical system.

The Empresa de Transmisión Eléctrica Dominicana reported that this Friday, June 19, it will perform high-voltage tests, known as HIPOT, on new equipment installed in the four line bays of the 138 kV Cruce de Cabral II substation. The intervention is part of the final expansion phase of this key infrastructure for the southern region.

According to ETED, these works seek to increase electrical reliability, improve operational security, and ready the facility to support greater demand and new connections to the National Interconnected Electrical System, especially in Barahona.

What the ETED intervention entails

Acknowledgments: The line to be worked on is the 138 kV Km 15 de Azua – Cruce de Cabral II – Juancho Los Cocos line, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. During this period, there will be a temporary service interruption in several parts of Barahona, Bahoruco, and Independencia.

Several strategic facilities will also be impacted, including Barahona Carbón, Canoa Solar, Ingenio Barahona, Barahona Free Zone, Barahona Airport, Khoury Industrial, the Hydroelectric Power Plant, and the Southwest Aqueduct.

Electrical reliability and system expansion

ETED frames this day within its maintenance, modernization, and expansion program for the national network. This type of work is usually necessary to reduce risks, validate new equipment, and sustain a more stable operation in a network that transports large-scale energy.

In technical terms, electrical reliability depends not only on generating more energy, but on the transmission being able to move it without failures and with sufficient capacity to respond to demand. In the case of Cruce de Cabral II, the expansion also aims to create conditions for future power plants in the southern zone of the country.

ETED asked the public for understanding regarding the temporary interruption and stated that the objective is to strengthen a safer and more efficient service.
