San Pedro de Macorís.- The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kelvin Cruz, delivered this weekend the renovated Rolando Ramírez multipurpose pavilion in San Pedro de Macorís. The ceremony took place during halftime of the game between Soles del Este and Cañeros de La Romana, part of the National Basketball League.
The investment, provided by President Luis Abinader’s government through the Ministry of Sports, amounted to RD$ 16 million 300 thousand pesos.
“What you are seeing today is only the beginning of what can come for San Pedro de Macorís. This is a tangible change. Here there is an investment of more than 16 million pesos in a first stage, but now that it is missing, because until we leave this multipurpose venue as new, we will not leave here, from San Pedro de Macorís,” Cruz said after performing the opening tip‑off in the game.
The minister highlighted the quality of the repair and modernization of this facility, which serves for various sports activities and as a convention center available to the entire Petromacorisian community.
The minister was accompanied by the provincial governor, Giovanni Baltasar; Deputy Luis Gómez; Nelson Arroyo, director of Seguros Reservas, former deputy and provincial leader; among other officials.
“Here converge young people and adults, athletes and coaches, whole families, community leaders, educational, cultural and religious institutions. This is not just a sports venue: it is a symbol of unity, hope and development for this province”, the minister said.
The official added that the venue serves to develop the leadership potential that San Pedro de Macorís has, to unite it without sectarianism or colors or religions, because the facility will be available to those who need it.
The renovation of the Rolando Ramírez roof is part of President Abinader’s government’s efforts to provide communities with suitable spaces for healthy recreation and the organization of various events.
The result of the renovation of the facility located in the San Pedro de Macorís Sports Complex was praised by those present at the game both for the comfort of the areas and the visual appeal of the multipurpose venue.
