Club Deportivo Mauricio Báez
With the motto “serving the community”, the Club Deportivo Mauricio Báez celebrated this morning its 61st anniversary with its traditional breakfast, this time honoring Dr. José Joaquín Puello Herrera.
This recognition of Dr. Puello Herrera is given as a thank you for his 40 years of close collaboration with the institution, located in the Villa Juana neighborhood.
In the presence of personalities from various sectors of Dominican society, the renowned neurosurgeon expressed his gratitude towards the foundation’s management and the Club Mauricio Báez for the tribute, describing the anniversary as a “sports party”.
“What is being honored here is not a particular person, but sports, because it is a celebration that has become a meeting point for its main figures”, mentioned, who is also the president for life of the Dominican Olympic Committee.
Dr. Puello Herrera identified himself as a loyal Maurician follower, thanks to the friendship he has maintained with outstanding leaders of the entity, including Leo Corporán and the late Nelly Manuel Doñé.
Boyón
The opening words to the attendees were offered by José -Boyón- Domínguez, president of the Club Mauricio Báez, who shared about the work done by the institution since its founding in 1963.
“61 years dedicated to serving the community and immense satisfaction, in which many of us have had the honor of participating in this adventure”, declared Boyón Domínguez, immortal Dominican sportsman dominicano.
Don Leo
Leo Corporán, advisor and founder of the Club Mauricio Báez, greeted the present, thanking friends and collaborators who have contributed to the progress of the entity.
On the main table were the honored Dr. Puello Herrera, along with ministers Andrés Bautista, Kelvin Cruz, and Carlos Bonilla, Mayor Carolina Mejía, Julio Cordero, José Alfredo Corripio, José Monegro, Major General Carlos Febrillet Rodríguez, Major General Floreal Suárez, as well as Garibaldy Bautista, Charlie Marioti, and hosts Leo Corporán and Boyón Domínguez.

Amistad y honestidad
In his speech, Dr. Puello Herrera highlighted that sports represents an activity based on friendship and honesty. He advocated for a better society forged in tolerance and love for one’s neighbor and remembered great friends he has made in his sports career.
