The Central Directorate of Investigation (DICRIM) confirmed that, on the day of today, police agents carried out an intervention in the Herrera sector, where the sought-after Junior Antonio Cuevas Toribio, alias “Viño”, lost his life after an exchange of projectiles with the force. The 40-year-old was the object of an arrest warrant issued by the authorities and sought in the framework of the tracking and location actions in the Greater Santo Domingo area.
According to the preliminary report of the National Police, the agents found Cuevas Toribio while following his trail in the area. When trying to confront the agents with a firearm, a shootout ensued that proved fatal for the accused. The police explained that the alias “Viño” was located while the officers were carrying out the search operation.
Context of the August case
The intervention is related to an ongoing investigation into an incident that occurred on August 30, 2026, on 12th Street in the Buenos Aires sector of Herrera, Santo Domingo West. On that day, six people were injured after being hit by projectiles from a firearm. The injured were identified as Elías Benjamín Roso Reyes, Ashley Roselin de la Rosa Núñez, Elio Wilmer Sánchez García, Andy Tejeda Morillo, Leonardo Silverio Villanueva, and Carlos Guillén Valdez, known as “Carlito”.
The National Police indicated that the investigation into the August case continues to establish the circumstances and responsibilities. Operations are maintained in various points of the country with the aim of locating people required by justice and strengthening citizen security actions.
