President Luis Abinader has launched the Independencia Corridor, a key initiative that will benefit more than 40,000 daily passengers in Greater Santo Domingo and strengthens the Integrated Transportation System.
This new service brings the total fleet of reformed corridors to 209 buses distributed across four main routes: Núñez with 30 units, Churchill with 46, Charles de Gaulle with 64, and the newly inaugurated Independencia Corridor with 68. The network now covers 500.93 kilometers, including an additional 67.27 km through branches, according to official data from the Transportation Cabinet.

Technical specifications and accessible fare
The Independencia Corridor operates with buses holding 90 passengers each, from 5:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with frequencies of 5 to 7 minutes and 82 stops over an 18 km route. Its single fare of RD$35 is completely electronic, and through the Fare Stabilization Fund, users save up to RD$60 per trip thanks to direct subsidies.
Integration with the Metro and benefits for drivers
A pilot phase of fare integration with the Santo Domingo Metro is beginning, allowing free transfers at key stations with electronic payment via bank card. More than 200 drivers trained in safety and customer service receive social security, fixed shifts, and pensions. INTRANT supervises via GPS from its Control Center.
Other announced transportation improvements
Minister José Ignacio Paliza highlighted: “May Independencia flow starting today,” announcing for 2026 Metro line 2C, extra lanes on the Duarte Highway, underpasses at Plaza de la Bandera, a cable car in West Santo Domingo, and the bidding for the monorail between Centro Olímpico and the West. Deligne Ascención, coordinator of the Cabinet, emphasized the comprehensive vision of Luis Abinader‘s government in transportation, unprecedented in the country.
Since 2021, the Núñez, Churchill, and Charles corridors have transported 56,461,684 passengers, reorganizing urban transportation. Antonio Brito, from Fenatrano, praised Abinader as a man of action for fulfilling previous projects.
