Mayor Carolina Mejía initiated the comprehensive revitalization of Enriquillo Park, a project that will transform this iconic space in Villa Francisca and its surroundings. With an investment exceeding 234 million pesos, funded by President Luis Abinader, the works aim to modernize the area and improve the quality of life of residents and daily commuters.
Inaugurated in 1930, Enriquillo Park is a nerve center in Santo Domingo, where 14 intra-urban transportation terminals, 10 urban routes, and two OMSA corridors converge. This high influx generates thousands of passengers daily, making urgent intervention necessary to ensure safety and functionality.
Key details of the comprehensive revitalization of Enriquillo Park
- Extension of the park and renovation of the Walk of the Readers.
- Construction of a modern module for the Municipal Police.
- Building of a services building with a multi-purpose room and a medical dispensary.
- Play areas for children segmented by age: 1-6 years and 7-12 years.
These improvements will not only renovate the physical infrastructure but also promote commercial use in adjacent streets, according to architect Marcos Barinas, the project planner. He highlights the public-private integration as key to community success.

Collaboration with Villa Francisca neighbors
Carolina Mejía emphasized the need to work together with the community to preserve the space. “The economic investment made here will be worth it when we come to enjoy this place in respect, order, and cleanliness”, declared the mayor during the Thursday event. This approach responds to her over five-year track record, during which she has recovered over 210 parks and plazas in the capital, including the recent intervention in Paris.
Architect Barinas added: “That is the example that Enriquillo Park has, the example of the interaction of the public and private for the benefit of the community”. Representatives of neighborhood associations such as La Trinitaria, Juan Pablo Duarte, and Los Comunitarios attended the event, along with figures like the President of the Council of Regidores, Yovany Moya, and Deputy Liz Mieses.
Historical and social impact
Historically, Villa Francisca has been a vibrant neighborhood with deep cultural roots in Santo Domingo. The comprehensive revitalization of Enriquillo Park aligns with national efforts to recover public spaces, promoting safe environments that foster well-being. This project will elevate the area’s functionality, attracting families and dynamizing the local economy.
In total, the comprehensive revitalization of Enriquillo Park promises a modern and accessible space, consolidating Carolina Mejía‘s commitment to urban improvement in the Dominican capital.
