Business Sustainability in the Dominican Republic

Business sustainability in the Dominican Republic has been recognized in the third edition of the “Los + Ecoístas” awards, which highlight the initiatives of companies and communicators in favor of the environment. The award ceremony was held at the National Botanical Garden and was attended by representatives of the business sector, authorities, civil society organizations, and the media.

The “Los + Ecoístas” awards recognize companies, institutions, and individuals who contribute to the conservation of natural resources and the development of responsible practices. In this edition, new categories were incorporated to recognize the role of communicators and content creators in protecting the environment.

Categories and Winners

Among the novelties of this edition are the categories Prescriptor, directed at specialized media and platforms; KOL (Sustainability Voices), focused on influencers who promote environmental awareness; and Content Generator, aimed at recognizing the dissemination of these topics in digital environments. Journalist Carolina Cepeda was awarded in the Prescriptor category, Dr. Carol Franco in the KOL category, and William Ramos in the Content Generator category.

From a business perspective, SAMPOL was recognized for its contributions to energy transition and infrastructure efficiency; CEBSE, for its track record in conserving Dominican ecosystems and species; Casa Brugal, for its responsible supply practices and protection of natural resources; and Banco BHD, for integrating sustainability into its business model and promoting sustainable development financing solutions.

Innovation and Environmental Solutions

During the event, Andrés Bisonó, CEO of SOS Carbon, presented a lecture on innovation and possible solutions to the challenge of sargassum in Caribbean coastlines, a environmental problem that affects marine ecosystems and economic activities in the region.

The Global CEO of Piñero, Encarna Piñero, congratulated the winners and highlighted the importance of joining forces between companies, communicators, and strategic allies to move towards responsible environmental management. The executive stated that the recognized individuals are role models for their dedication, innovation, and commitment to sustainability.

The award ceremony also linked environmental conservation with Dominican craftsmanship. The statuette awarded to the winners was selected through a contest organized by Piñero, the Ministry of Culture, and the National Center for Arts and Crafts (CENADARTE), as part of the company’s agreement with cultural institutions. The winning work, “Through the Crystal”, was created by artisan Kerlin Franco using recycled and reused materials.

With this third edition, “Los + Ecoístas” expands recognition to those working towards sustainability: from organizations that incorporate environmental practices to professionals who contribute to making those efforts known and understood by citizens.
