The XXVIII International Book Fair Santo Domingo (FILSD 2026) closed this Sunday with preliminary sales that exceeded $97.4 million and an attendance of 714,322 visitors, reported the Minister of Culture, Roberto Ángel Salcedo, during the closing ceremony of the event.
The balance was presented in the Carlos Piantini room of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, where Salcedo highlighted the results achieved during the eleven days of activities. The fair, held in Juan Pablo Duarte Culture Plaza, featured a program of over 700 activities and the participation of over 70 international writers, as well as publishers, bookstores, authors, and cultural managers.
International and local participation
Panama was the honored guest country and its delegation included writers and artists who participated in literary and cultural activities, as well as proposals related to music, gastronomy, and cinema.
The Dominican writer José Mármol was honored, and the fair brought together 32 international publishers, 21 national publishers, and 44 Dominican bookstores.
Reading access program
As part of the initiatives to facilitate access to books, the Book Bonus program distributed 7,000 free copies to participating students in the activities.
Awards and closing
During the closing, the recognition “A lifetime dedicated to the book” was awarded to book dealer and researcher Juan Emilio Báez Melo, accompanied by a grant of 300,000 pesos.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the National Folk Ballet, directed by Wanda Camilo.
Next edition
Salcedo announced that the next International Book Fair will take place over two weeks, from September 12 to 26, 2027, and reiterated the Ministry of Culture’s commitment to promoting reading and strengthening the Dominican publishing sector.
