The China-Friendship U18 Basketball Tournament kicked off with great enthusiasm and joy from hundreds of athletes and fans from various fields, organized by the Mauricio Báez Club.
The Chinese Ambassador, Chen Luning, presided over the event, highlighting the importance of the championship and thanking the Mauricio Báez Club for organizing it.
“I am truly excited to see these young people from the 16 clubs from different places competing in a healthy way and demonstrating their skills. These are the activities we must encourage to boost youth development in an environment of affection and brotherhood.”
Chinese Ambassador Luning, alongside José Domínguez (Boyón), Junior Páez (Yipi), director of the Dominican Basketball Federation, and Leo Corporán, advisor to the Mauricio Báez Club, performed the ceremonial tip-off.
Future
Boyón Domínguez, president of the Mauricio Báez Club, stated: “It is a genuine honor for our Mauricio family to organize this China-Friendship tournament. Many of these young people participating today in this friendly encounter will be future players for higher-category teams and, shortly, some will represent the national teams.”
Pueblo Nuevo takes the victory
In an exciting match decided in the final minutes, the Pueblo Nuevo Club team overcame the Mauricio Báez Club by a score of 87-82.
Yostin Brea led the winners’ offense with 25 points, followed by Raúl Peña with 16 and Cristhofer Valera with 13.
On the defeated side: Eugri Germán scored 25 points, Danny García 17, and Diego Cruz 13.
