Authorities in the electricity sector announced that the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI) was completely restored at 11:53 p.m. this Monday. Electrical service normalized following a blackout that began in the morning and affected a large part of Dominican territory.

Minister of Energy and Mines, Joel Santos, reported that the restoration process was carried out with rigorous technical criteria. Frequency stability, the balance between load and generation, and the progressive synchronization of circuits nationwide were guaranteed. “The objective was to recover electrical service safely and transparently,” Santos emphasized.

Santos remained in the Control Center alongside key leaders: Alfonso Rodríguez from ETED, Andrés Astacio from the Electricity Superintendency, Edwards Veras from CNE, Celso Marranzini from CUED, and Ricardo Guerrero, Vice Minister of Electrical Energy. This coordination prevented risky reconnections and protected the facilities.
Technical investigation into the causes of the blackout
With electrical service 100% stabilized, investigation protocols have been activated to identify the exact causes of the incident. The results will be disclosed through official channels. This event recalls previous blackouts in the Dominican Republic, such as the one in 2020 that left millions without power due to failures in generation plants, according to historical sector reports.
The national electrical service faces chronic challenges, with an average of 150 annual interruptions reported by the Electricity Superintendency in 2025. Experts highlight the need to modernize the grid to prevent overloads, especially during peak summer demand.
