France.- Anthony Davis, the standout center for the U.S. team, a firm contender for gold, achieved an important victory over South Sudan with a score of 103-86 this Wednesday, thus securing their advance to the quarterfinals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. From the Pierre Mauroy stadium in Villeneuve d’Ascq, near Lille, Davis expressed that winning “is not our main goal”.
“Our main goal is not simply to win in these Games,” mentioned Davis after the match against South Sudan, 31 years old, who plays as a center for Los Angeles Lakers and was crowned NBA champion – the U.S. professional basketball league – in the year 2020.
“However, it brings us a certain joy the fact of continuing to compete next week,” expressed Anthony Davis, who aspires to obtain his second Olympic gold after the one achieved at the London 2012 Olympic Games with the national team, and later became world champion in Spain, two years later.
The ‘Team USA’ center had a 19-minute performance in this Wednesday’s game; where he recorded eight points, grabbed seven rebounds, and delivered three assists, achieving a total efficiency rating of 12.
“Nevertheless, there are aspects in which we can still improve; we need to make significant adjustments. We will use Saturday’s game against Puerto Rico to make those necessary adjustments. From that moment on, we will see which direction we take,” added Anthony Davis after Wednesday’s game at the Pierre Mauroy, which was attended by more than 27,000 spectators.
