Santo Domingo.- Early this Thursday morning, Mr. Américo Ortiz, father of Dominican Baseball Hall of Famer David Ortiz, passed away, confirmed sources close to the family in a message sent to the program “Esto No es Radio”.
The patriarch of Ortiz had been experiencing health complications in recent times.
Last Father’s Day, the former baseball player wrote a heartfelt message to his father, wishing: “God give you the opportunity to get out of that bed in good health, my old man”.
“You are one of the best things that have happened to me in life and I truly don’t think in my best day as a father that I could surpass you because you from nothing did too much just to see your children grow and without fear of being wrong there are no ways to surpass you, dad”, added El Big Papi in the message posted on Instagram.
No official details have been provided about the funeral arrangements.
Américo Ortiz was a key figure in the personal and professional development of David Ortiz.
