AMCHAMDR Explores Strategic Opportunities in Bilateral Trade

· 2 min de lectura

Santo Domingo. The American Chamber of Commerce of the Dominican Republic (AMCHAMDR) organized a key discussion on strategic opportunities in the face of the new trade landscape with the United States. This event, driven by its Legal Committee, brought together experts to dissect challenges and benefits in a world marked by geopolitical and technological changes.

Key Speeches by Business and Government Leaders

Ángel Ramos Brusiloff, president of the Legal Committee of AMCHAMDR, opened the dialogue by emphasizing the Dominican Republic’s role as a reliable partner. He highlighted initiatives such as nearshoring and friendshoring, which position the country as a regional logistics hub. In a context of supply chain security and advances in artificial intelligence, strategic opportunities arise to expand trade ties.

William Malamud, executive vice president, introduced the Minister of Industry, Commerce and Mipymes, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón. He highlighted public-private collaboration as a pillar for competitiveness. “This is the Dominican Republic’s moment to innovate,” stated the head of the MICM, underlining concrete results in the current administration.

Strategic Opportunities in Exports and Nearshoring

David Lewis, vice president of Manchester Trade, analyzed US trade policy, which is more protectionist with an emphasis on tariffs and deficit reduction. However, the Dominican Republic shines in key sectors. Exports of medical devices reached nearly US$1.8 billion, consolidating the country in regional value chains.

DR-US trade exchange exceeded US$18.9 billion in 2025, with 48% of Dominican exports directed to the North American market.

Historically, DR-CAFTA has driven this growth since 2007, with a 150% increase in bilateral trade. Experts agree that nearshoring, accelerated post-pandemic, offers strategic opportunities in high-value manufacturing and technology, according to data from the Central Bank and the MICM.

Public-Private Collaboration: Key to the Future

Moderated by Roberto Despradel, vice president of the Bilateral Relations Committee of AMCHAMDR, the panel included questions from the audience. Caroline Bonó closed by thanking sponsors such as Central Romana and Elite Circle companies. These spaces reinforce strategic opportunities for investment and sustained growth.

In a landscape of global tensions, the Dominican Republic aligns itself with trends such as digital sovereignty. The business community must lead innovation, backed by the State, to capitalize on these strategic opportunities and maintain export momentum.
