Air connectivity: the Dominican Republic achieved for the first time a direct connection with Italy thanks to ITA Airways entering the Dominican market. The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, announced that the Italian airline will connect the cities of Rome and Santo Domingo with direct flights. ITA Airways will start with a weekly frequency from the Las Americas International Airport and could operate routes to other important destinations in the country.
ITA Airways operations will begin on November 30, 2026 with its new direct route Rome Fiumicino–Santo Domingo. Minister Collado said it is a momentous fact that Italy’s official line, used by the Pope, reaches the Dominican Republic for the first time. They are in negotiations for flights to Punta Cana as well.
The ITA Airways representative for the European market will invite Minister Collado to a special ceremony to celebrate the establishment of this new route and the ties generated with the Dominican Republic. Minister Collado indicated that these agreements align with the vision of strengthening air connectivity so that Dominican tourism continues to grow. “No seats, no flights, no tourists,” he concluded.
The Minister of Tourism leads the Dominican delegation at Top Resa, one of Europe’s most important fairs, where a proposal that integrates business, air connectivity, culture, gastronomy and experiences is presented to buyers, tour operators, travel agencies and industry leaders.
