The mother of Juan Carlos Hernández García, alias “Peña”, one of the four accused in the case that ended with the death of Julián Oro Duro and his wife Zeneida Socorro Castillo, explained her version of her son’s involvement in the investigated operation.
Unawareness of the purpose
During an interview with Noticias Villa Riva, the woman stated that her son did not know the reason behind his relative’s request. “That man they say is his uncle is not his uncle, he is his aunt’s husband,” she declared. According to her, that relative had asked the young man to look for a person who could ride a motorcycle.
Facilitation of contact and amount received
Hernández García, who does not know how to ride a motorcycle, allegedly contacted an acquaintance who worked at a hair salon and was looking for a job. The mother maintained that her son put both parties in touch, but was unaware of what would happen next.
The woman also revealed that her son received US$240, an amount that matches the sum authorities reported having seized during the investigation. However, the Public Ministry must determine the origin of that money and its relation to the events.
Background of the accused
According to the account, Hernández García had played baseball and later joined the military forces, from which he retired. At the time of the case, he claimed to be unemployed.
Disposition before justice
The mother indicated that she does not want to prevent her son from answering to justice if any responsibility is proven. “Who did it must pay,” she said, requesting that the judicial consequences be based only on actions that can be demonstrated individually.
Case context
The Public Ministry attributes participation to four accused: Phillips Michael Tejeda Vásquez, Lawrence Mark Liranzo Marcos, Kevin Dariel Germán Troncoso and Juan Carlos Hernández García. The investigation originated at Julián Oro Duro’s residence, in Brisa Oriental VI, near the San Isidro highway. The victim, Zeneida Socorro Castillo, lost her life, and the artist was seriously injured.
Judge Leomar Cruz Quezada, from the Judicial Office of Permanent Care Services of Santo Domingo Este, imposed 18 months of preventive detention on the four accused and declared the file a complex case. The four remain at the Las Parras Correction and Rehabilitation Center in Guerra, while authorities continue developing the investigation.
