President Luis Abinader wrapped up his workday in the US capital with a bilateral meeting with the President of Peru, Keiko Fujimori, on Monday, November 3. During the meeting, Abinader expressed his intention to take the relations between the Dominican Republic and Peru to new levels and explore cooperation opportunities in various fields.

During the exchange, Abinader highlighted the importance of maintaining the best relations with Peru and encouraging existing links between the two countries. “We wanted to always have the best relations with Peru, encourage our relations. I believe we can take them to other levels”, expressed the Dominican President.
Historical context and opportunities
The president emphasized the historical ties between the two countries and noted that, despite their proximity, there is still room to expand their potential. “They are brother countries that have many relationships, even those that were not fully potentialized”, he stated.
First meeting after Fujimori’s assumption of the presidency
Abinader explained that it was his first meeting with Fujimori since she took office as President of Peru, and that both exchanged invitations to visit each other’s countries. “It was also my first meeting with her after she became president. She invited me and we invited her too”, indicated the President.
Committed to multilateral cooperation
The meeting was attended by Foreign Minister Víctor-Ito Bisonó, Ambassador and Vice Minister of Multilateral Foreign Policy, Rubén Silié, and Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Wellington Bencosme. These officials reinforced the willingness of both governments to deepen cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, and regional development.
