President Luis Abinader used the inauguration of the Nizao-Sabana Larga-Ocoa highway to highlight the works executed during the six years of his administration in the south of the Dominican Republic and compared them with the twenty years of opposition. “We are going to compare 20 against 6”, the president said, emphasizing the investments that have transformed the region.
The highway as a development axis
The new road, which connects San José de Ocoa with the coastal area, has a key role in the production and transportation of goods. The president explained that the highway will facilitate commercial exchange between the Cibao and the South, in addition to improving the mobility of people.
Complementary works and road safety
During the event, complementary works were announced in the Ocoa crossing and the intervention of eight kilometers to mitigate the landslides that affect the area. “The Government will continue to execute projects that benefit the province”, Abinader assured.
Reaction of local representatives
Senator Aneudy Ortiz, from San José de Ocoa, valued the Government’s support and qualified the new highway as “the opening of a development channel for the South and the Cibao region”, pointing out that it will allow Ocoeño producers to access important markets and connect with the International Airport of the Cibao.
Context and priorities
The inauguration took place after a Government Council in San José de Ocoa, where the main needs and priorities of the demarcation were analyzed. The road projects, educational centers and sports facilities reflect the regional development strategy promoted by the current administration.
