Vienna.- The OPEC+ group of ‘petrostates’, spearheaded by Saudi Arabia and Russia, has postponed the implementation of its plan to gradually lift voluntary crude production cuts from October 1 to December 1.
This decision was made by the ministers of Saudi Arabia, Russia, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Kazakhstan, Algeria, and Oman during a teleconference (which was not previously announced), as reported by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in a statement.
The eight countries involved had planned to start opening the taps next month to gradually return a total of 2.2 million barrels a day (mbd) of crude that they had voluntarily withdrawn in addition to the significant pumping cuts agreed upon by 19 of the 22 OPEC+ countries at different stages since late 2022, which remain in effect.
